A Roller Coaster Ride

November 24, 2009 at 12:07 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Being a new mom is a lot like riding a roller coaster. There are constantly ups and downs and the amazing thing is that you can have one day filled with both. Yesterday for example we had a great morning. The kids went right back to sleep after their 6:30 feeding and we all got to sleep in until around nine. Then when the kids woke up they were happy and I sat up in their room with them and they smiled and made little cooing noises. It was great. It was how I always imagined motherhood.

Who knew that the 12:30 feeding would bring total chaos. They were both screaming at the same time. I decided to feed Leah first and Jack was crying so hard his face was turning a very interesting shade of red. I tried moving his bouncy seat with my foot keeping the pacifier in with my other hand.. everything I could think of and nothing made him happy. Then when it was his turn to eat Leah screamed and Jack projective vomited all over me and the couch, which meant that he needed new clothes and the couch needed a scrub and while all of this was happening the doctor’s office that I had been trying to get a hold of since the morning finally called back. After that things went back up. We had Grandma and Grandpa Tucker and Aunt Melanie and Uncle Jody over for dinner. The kids were great they smiled and were really happy all evening.

They say that it is hormones that make new moms act a little crazy and weepy.. but I’m not sure that is it. Since, I didn’t give birth I don’t have all of that going on and I will tell you that I have still sat on the couch and cried because I wasn’t sure I could handle another night and then a few hours later cried because I was so happy and I couldn’t believe Jack and Leah were here and they are mine.

Acid Reflux

November 23, 2009 at 3:15 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

Jack is having problems with his acid reflux again.  The Zantac was no longer working so we called on friday and the doctor prescribed him some Prevacid. So far I am not a fan of the Prevacid. Instead of being a liquid medicine it is a pill that I have to crush up and then mix with water. The problem is that it has little particles that don’t crush up and won’t go through the whole in the nipple..so Jack doesn’t end up getting the all of his medicine. I tried using a syringe but that ended up with me wearing the medicine rather than Jack eating it. Yesterday afternoon wasn’t his best day; Jack cried most of the afternoon and has been throwing up at every feeding. The doctor’s office said to give it a week but I feel so bad for my little guy. You can just tell he is in pain. I hope that it gets better soon.

On a good note the babies slept five hours last night.  I woke up after 4 hours and kept thinking the would be getting up at anytime but they kept on sleeping. Hopefully they will do that again soon. Here are some pictures from our weekend.

Happy Birthday Jason!!

Last Weekend.

It is Thursday and I am finally getting around to writing about last weekend. The kids and I all wore our pajamas all day yesterday if that tells you anything. I figure we can do that for one day, but that means we HAVE to get dressed today.

Last weekend was great. Jason and I went out for drinks and dinner on friday. It was so nice to have an evening without the kids and some grown up conversation. We enjoyed a few hours alone but were thrilled to come and say good night to them when we got home.

Saturday I went and ran some errands with my mom and sister while Jason and my dad were in charge. I got a little christmas shopping done, which was nice. In the afternoon the twins great grandparents (Ma and Grandad) came to visit. Sunday we took the babies out to lunch for the first time. We planned it all out like we were on some sort of mission. We went right at eleven, sat in the corner and kept the kids all covered up. I think there was only one other couple in the restaurant the whole time we were in there but it still made me nervous.

In other news, we went to the doctor on Tuesday. Jack now weighs 8 lb 12 oz and Leah weighs 7 lb 12 oz. They are both 19 1/2 inches long. They got their first round of vaccinations and were a little out of sorts on Tuesday but not too bad. We also found out that Jack has a mild case of Torticollis, which is basically a flat head. He just has it a little bit on one side so he will go to physical therapy and I am supposed to make sure that he lies on the other side as much as possible. He doesn’t love it when I make him lay that way but he is starting to get used to it. The doctor gave us the okay to feed the babies 6 times a day rather than 8. This doesn’t sound like a big change, but for me it is huge. They will have to work up to this gradually but I had them eat every 3 1/2 hours instead of 3 yesterday and they seem to be adjusting well.

Here are a couple of new pictures. There are more of Leah because Jack was crying in a lot of his. I’ll have to take some more of him soon.

This afternoon Jason and I are headed to Lawrence with the kids and Chief. My parents and sister are going to watch the kids tonight so Jason and can go out to dinner and have a date night.  I am SO excited. I can’t wait to get dressed up and go some where just the two of us. Jason and I have been looking forward to this all week and carefully planning where we are going to go on our night off… I will tell you it includes cocktails and some good food. : )

I have packing, laundry, cleaning and a shower on my to do list before we head out and my list could grow if someone decides to spit up down their shirt or have a major blow out before we leave so I better get started. I’ll post pics from our weekend on Monday.

Last night I realized that Jason and I have some very strange names for baby stuff and baby equipment. I’m not really sure how a lot of these started, but I thought it would be fun to post some of the new vocabulary from our house.

I have been really excited for Leah to finally be able to wear a dress. At first, Leah was so tiny and we didn’t have any dresses small enough. Now we have a few dresses that are small enough, but it is cold outside so she needs to wear tights and they don’t make tights small enough for Leah’s skinny legs. I was out this weekend and found a pair of tights that were so tiny I thought they might work. I got all excited and brought them home and tried them on Leah and this is what it looked like. Not tight at all.

It was nice outside on Saturday so Leah wore a dress with just socks. Maybe in a few weeks we can try the tights again.

Leah's Dress

The blog has taken a back burner this week. I was at home by myself every day except Thursday, and I just ran out of time. It seems that there is always laundry, dishes or something that comes before the blog.

The babies are doing well. They have had a couple of more nights with a four hour streach…which is very nice. I hope that this trend continues. I went and got Jack and sleep positioner and he seems to like the crib better now. Jack is smiling more and more. Leah is still pretty serious. She has smiled a few times at Grandma but won’t smile for Jason and I. On friday I weight the babies, Jack weighed 8.4 lb and Leah weighed 7.4 lb.

My good friend Lindsey and her husband Corey welcomed their son Aiden to the world yesterday. He was 5 lb 15 oz and is perfect… so cute. Mom and baby are both doing well. There is nothing like the joy of a new baby and we are soo excited for Lindsey and Corey. I can’t wait to hold the little guy.

Bad Habits

November 4, 2009 at 12:38 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 2 Comments

We have gotten in to a bit of a bad habit with Jack. At night he cries when we laid him in his crib, but the moment we pick him up he falls asleep. We discovered that he sleeps fine in the bouncy seat so we did what any parent would do..we let him sleep in the bouncy seat. I know this isn’t the best but he sleeps that way so we keep doing it. I suspected that Jack’s problem with laying flat was probably due to his acid reflux and his dose has been increased; however, he is still sleeping in the bouncy chair at night.

I have decided that we need to get him used to sleeping in his crib again so we don’t end up with a mess as he gets older. Unfortunately, this is easier said that done. Last night I put him to bed in his crib only to have him grunt for 45 min before he finally fell asleep. He didn’t ever cry… he just grunted. It is actually kind of funny. He did finally fall asleep but he ended up back in the bouncy before the night was over. I figure as long as he starts sleeping a portion of the night in the crib we are headed in the right direction.

Speaking of sleeping. Jack and Leah slept a four-hour stretch and a three hour and forty five-minute stretch last night. They did this Sunday as well. I know that it doesn’t sound like it would make a big difference… but it really does. I can only hope this is a pattern that will continue.
