Acid Reflux

Jack is having problems with his acid reflux again.  The Zantac was no longer working so we called on friday and the doctor prescribed him some Prevacid. So far I am not a fan of the Prevacid. Instead of being a liquid medicine it is a pill that I have to crush up and then mix with water. The problem is that it has little particles that don’t crush up and won’t go through the whole in the nipple..so Jack doesn’t end up getting the all of his medicine. I tried using a syringe but that ended up with me wearing the medicine rather than Jack eating it. Yesterday afternoon wasn’t his best day; Jack cried most of the afternoon and has been throwing up at every feeding. The doctor’s office said to give it a week but I feel so bad for my little guy. You can just tell he is in pain. I hope that it gets better soon.

On a good note the babies slept five hours last night.  I woke up after 4 hours and kept thinking the would be getting up at anytime but they kept on sleeping. Hopefully they will do that again soon. Here are some pictures from our weekend.

  1. Jace also had very bad reflux. We were on axid first, and then switched to prevacid. Prevacid actually worked really good for us. It didn’t completely take it away, but helped tremendously. It took a few days before it finally kicked in. I would fold a baggie in half and pound and crush it with the wrong end of a knife, and it usually did the trick to make sure it was ground enough that it would go through the nipple. I also use to mix it with only about an ounce of milk just to make sure he got it all, and then feed him the rest of his milk after that. I also would give him gas drops in about half of his feedings each day, which also helped with his tummy.

    • Smashing the pill with a knife worked great! Jack actually got all of his medicine this morning. Thank you so much for the advice!!
