Will we ever sleep all night again?

A few weeks ago Jack and Leah were doing really at night. They even slept from 7 pm to 7 am on several occasions. Since then it has gone down hill. First Jack started waking up at 4:30… it wasn’t too bad we fed both kids and they slept for another 3 or 4 hours. About a week later it became 3:30 then this week Jack has been getting up two or three times in the middle of the night, while Leah sleeps until 5:30 or 6 every day. Mommy and Daddy are exhausted. We normally give Jack his pacifier first and he will go back to sleep for a while and eventually we resort to feeding him around 3 or so. I know we have got to do something. He is capable of sleeping all night because he has done it. I know our pediatrician would tell us to let him cry it out, but that sounds like torture and I’m worried we will end up with two kids crying.

Jason and I talked about it today and I think we are going to have to try to let him cry it out. Tonight my mom is watching them because we are going to an auction for Jason’s elementary school but tomorrow night we are going to start. I hope that it isn’t too terrible and doesn’t last too many days. Wish us luck.

The babies were very good today. Mostly smiles and giggles. It is soo fun to be with them when they are like that. Leah rolled over from her back to her tummy today! I went to make a bottle and left her laying on her back playing and when I came back she was laying on her tummy. Here are a couple of pics from today.

5 Months Old

It has been awhile since I have posted. The babies weren’t eating or sleeping well last week and I never got around to it. Jason and I had a great weekend without the kids last weekend. Friday I went shopping, had a pedicure and a massage and then Jason and I went to dinner at Grand Street. Yummy. Saturday we went to Garrozzos with some friends and then to the boats for a while. It was a good weekend but we were ready to see the kids by sunday.

The babies were 5 months old yesterday. It is amazing how time flies. They have both discovered their voices and now scream all the time just for fun. It is pretty hilarious. Leah has also figured out how to smack her lips and make a noise which she does all the time and is  really close to rolling over from her back to her tummy. Jack has become an expert on rolling over from his tummy to his back. It is hard for him to have much tummy time these days because he rolls over almost instantly. They are both starting to wear 3-6 month clothing now. It is really fun getting to put them in all their new clothes. It seems like they wore 0-3 forever.

I am still working on getting them to take naps in their beds. It isn’t going that well. I can normally get them to take their morning nap in the crib but the afternoon one only lasts 10-20 minutes in the crib and if I let them sleep in their bouncy chairs they will sleep two to three hours. I am going to keep trying.

Here are a couple new pictures.

Weekend at Grandmas

Grandma Rhonda took over the blog for a day to write about her weekend with the kiddos.

Jack and Leah had a fun weekend at Grandma & Grandpa Vincent’s for Valentines Day.  I had so much fun taking care of them, but had no idea how tiring it was.  I am so proud of Natalie for the great job she does everyday with Jack and Leah.  We had three adults everyday and we still went to bed exhausted.  They didn’t sleep as long as they do at home, I hope I didn’t miss them up too bad.  I don’t let them fuss too much since they are sooo cute in the middle of the night.  We can’t wait for them to come back and spend another weekend with us.

Crying and more Crying

February 11, 2010 at 9:01 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Yesterday was a very challenging day. Actutally it was probably the most challenging day I have had since the babies got home. There was a lot of crying . Miss Leah is having some problems with her acid reflux again. Yesterday there were two feedings that she just refused to eat and then she screamed for about an hour and a half after I tried to feed her. Poor thing. Jack has recently learned how to scream, which he normally he does it when he is happy. Yesterday he alternated between screaming and laughing to crying. I think he thought Leah was getting too much of  my attention. There were a couple of times when they were both screaming and I couldn’t seem to make either of them happy and I really just wanted to cry too.

The doctor has switched Leah to the same acid reflux medicine that Jack is on and I hope that it starts working soon. I am also supposed to put cereal in her bottle, but she is not having any of that. At one point yesterday Leah had only taken a total of 9 ounces in 11 hours  and getting anything down her became more important than giving her the formula mixed with cereal. I was worried she was going to get dehydrated. When Jason got home he finally got her to take a whole bottle and then evening got a lot better.

Tonight we are headed to Lawrence. We are going to spend the night and then tomorrow morning Jason and I will come back to KC without the kids. Jack and Leah are staying at Grandma and grandpa’s for the whole weekend. Tomorrow Jason scheduled a massage and pedicure for me and then we are going out to dinner. Saturday the plan is to sleep in and go to a movie and then we are having dinner with a big group of a friends. I am soo excited for this weekend. Even though it is only Thursday it has been a long week. Maybe the babies were just trying to make it so I don’t miss them too much this weekend : )

Jack and Leah are getting baptized in March. My mom and I went and look at baptism outfits and everything that we could find was either really expensive or tacky. So, my mom volunteered to make the outfits. We already picked out the pattern and today we are going to look for fabric. I am really looking forward to getting out of the house. It has been a couple of days since I left.

Jack and Leah slept again from 8 p.m. until 7:15 a.m. I was shocked. They hardly ever have two good sleeping days in a row. The nap thing isn’t going so well so they cried a lot yesterday.. I wonder if that had something to do with it. I also suspect that Jack is beginning to teethe. He is chewing on everything and drooling a lot.

Here is a quick pic. They are all dressed up for their day out with Grandma and mom.

Super bowl this year was a bit different from last year. We watched the first half of the game with the kids. We made some hot wings and chips with blue cheese sauce and the kids ate cereal. mmm. We had to take the third quarter off to bathe the kids and put them to bed and then we finished up the game.

Jack and Leah slept from 8:00 last night until 7:15 this morning. It was so great! I was starting to worry something was wrong with them because they have never slept that long. We have decided that they need to start taking their naps in their cribs. Before I was just letting them fall asleep in the bouncy chairs. We started this on Saturday and it has been a rough couple of days for naps. They do okay for the morning nap but the afternoon one never goes very well in the cribs. Hopefully they will get it by the end of the week. It could be a long week for me. Luckily Jack and Leah are going to spend this weekend with Grandma and Grandpa. I am excited to have a date night with Jason and go to dinner with some friends.

One Year Ago

Last year on the morning of the super bowl two of our little embroyos were being transferred to my sister in law Gina. We all hoped and prayed that at least one of the embroyos would stick. Little did we know that both of the embroyos were already growing. About four days after the embroyos were transferred Gina told me she knew she was pregnant. The test wasn’t offically for two weeks but the only other time in her life she had felt like that was when she was pregnant.

Looking back it has been a busy, stressful and wonderful year. Jason and I are so thankful to Gina for what she has done for us. Its amazing how many things can change in one year.

I am a Housewife.

A few weeks ago I had a doctor’s appointment at an office I hadn’t been to for a while. Because I hadn’t been for a while they made me go through the registration process again. A receptionist took me back and asked all the normal questions. Name, address, martial status. Then she asked me if I was employed, to which I responded, “No.” Later she saw a pictures of the kids and she said, “Oh, you are a homemaker.” It was wierd hearing someone else say that. I had never thought to tell her I was a home maker when she asked if I was employed. When she said homemaker I pictured a 1950’s housewife like Donna Ried or June Cleaver. Maybe I should come up with a new name for it. Domestic Engineer, V.P. of Tucker Household, CEO of Tucker Household… or Domestic Goddess. I like the last one.

Whatever the name I absolutely love my new job. I know that staying at home with kids is not something everyone wants to do..but I love it. I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and see what fun new things my little ones are going to do. I love that I get to feed them, play with them and see their cute little smiles all day. Don’t get me wrong there are times when I want to pull my hair out. There are times when both kids are screaming and the dog is barking and I want to run away for a few minutes, but  the good times definitely out number the bad. For the first time in a long time I feel like I am actually good at what I am doing.  The house isn’t always perfect and I’m not wearing high heels and pearls and making dinner, but the kids are happy, fed and the house isn’t too messy. I feel lucky to have this opportunity and I am enjoying every minute of it.

The babies are sleeping and eating a ton right now. They must be getting ready to go through a growth spurt. Here are a bunch of pictures from the last couple of weeks.
