Yesterday evening we went to dinner at Chipotle and then drove around and looked at Christmas lights. The kids love looking at lights and scream “Lights lights.” Every time they see anything. It was pretty fun. While we were driving around we started thinking about two years ago when we went to see lights. Two years ago we stopped off at Russel Stovers on the way home and it was our first time taking the babies out in public. It seems like a long long time ago. I remember being so nervous and keeping them all covered up and we were the only ones in the store. We got a little nostalgic and decided to make a stop at Russel Stovers on the way home. The kids were super excited. They hardly ate their chocolate santas but enjoyed running around the store looking at everything.

When we got home both kids had TONS of energy and they ran around in circles for about 30 min laughing and yelling. It was pretty cute. We have been having some issues with bed time and nap time, so we are in the process of moving bed time back to 8. I am hopeful that this will help them to sleep in a little more. This morning they slept until 7, which they haven’t done in a very long time.

Jack is making me exhausted today.  I love his spunk and his energy and inquisitiveness, but sometimes he just wears me out. Today we were trying to run some errands and I had to put his coat on three times and his shoes on twice because he just kept taking them off. Then when we got in the car he cried all the way to costco because his coat wasn’t zipped.  I have also been trying for over forty minutes to get him to take a nap. I know that his perseverance will make him very successful later in life but today I just wish he would do something I ask.

I have found that since I started work my days off are a little nuts. We have errands, laundry, playdates and cleaning all to cram into two days. It makes me wonder how people who work full-time get it all done. Today I have done two loads of laundry, bagged up some clothes that don’t fit Jack anymore, ran to Costco for some essentials, dropped off Jack’s old clothes at a friends, organized a kitchen drawer, cleaned our bathroom and attempted to straighten up the Garage. We are having friends over for dinner tonight and our house currently looks like this….

Luckily they are good friends so they will understand.

We had to put our dog chief to sleep a few weeks ago. I’m not sure if I shared that on the blog or not. Everyone keeps asking me if the kids have noticed and for the most part they haven’t said much. We have an ornament on our tree that looks like Chief and the kids like to kiss it. Today while I was doing dishes Jack starts yelling Big Chief. I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about and then realized that he was looking for the dog. Before I could say anything Leah says ” Chief in Heaven.” Soo cute.

I just had to post a picture of Leah’s outfit today. She insisted on picking it out herself..and we were only going to Costco so I figured it didn’t matter.

Weekend and Grandma and Grandpas

We headed to my parents house for the weekend after Jason got off work on Friday. All four of us had haircut appointments. I wasn’t going to cut Leah’s hair but I was convinced that it would look better if the ends were trimmed. Her hair does look better and has more curl..it was a good decision.

Friday night we went out for Mexican. The kids were very well behaved and it was nice to eat out. We haven’t been doing a ton of that recently becuase the kids have been having some trouble sitting still and being quiet at resteraunts.

Saturday morning we let the kids decorate chrsitmas cookies and my Grandparents came over to watch. The kids had a blast and made a huge mess. At one point we realized that leah was putting icing on her hand followed by sprinkles and then licking her hand. I guess the cookie is optional.

Jason and I snuck away while the kids were sleeping for a mini date. We went downtown and had a couple of beers at a bar. It was nice to have a couple of hours just the two of us. I think sometimes we forget how important that is. Saturday night we had a steak dinner. It was YUMMY. It was a group effort. My dad made the steaks and drop bisquits, my mom did baked potatoes and green beans and I made Blue cheese wedge salads. Jason and Stephen watched the kids. Before we ate we said a prayer and as soon as we were done Jack yelled..”I GOT STEAK.” It cracked everyone up. I think he ate as much steak as I did. Before bed the kids got to take a bubble bath in Grandma’s giant tub and then we all watched Cars 2 together. It was a great weekend.

Family Pictures

We finally had family pictures taken again this fall. We had not had any professional pictures taken for a very long time and were overdue. The kids were not on their best behavior the day we did the pictures so I wasn’t sure what we would end up with. We actually ended up with some pretty amazing pictures. I wanted to post a couple of my favorites.

Our neighbor took the pictures, you can check out his website here if you are looking for a photographer.

Christmas is my favorite holiday…it always has been. I love the lights and the music and all the celebrations. I think I like the part leading up to christmas as much or more as the acutaly holiday. This year I have been thinking a lot about holiday traditions. I have been trying to decide what traditions of mine I want to keep and what traditions of Jason’s we will keep and what new traditions we will create with our family.

This year one new tradition that we started was the advent books. As a way to count down to christmas the kids unwrap one book every night before bed. I bought some new ones this year because we didn’t have a ton and borrowed some from Grandma but they all have something to do with Christmas. I tried to get a good mix of Santa themed books and books about the  Nativity. The kids love it. They look forward to reading their book each night and the best part is they like the Santa books and the Nativity books equally. Leah ecspecially loves to talk about baby Jesus and tell me how Mary is his mom.

Another tradition we started was the elf on the shelf. Jason and the kids named the elf Rodger…it wouldn’t have been my first name for an elf, but I was gone the night the elf was named. The kids don’t totally understand it yet but they enjoy looking for Rodger every moring and like seeing where he is sitting.

To celebrate the Christmas season we also have plans to drive around and look at Chrsitmas lights. Jason and I have always done this and the kids love looking at the lights this year so it will be fun to take them. I am also going to attempt to let them make sugar cookies..which might be totally crazy but I am sure they will have a good time. We got the house all decorated I wanted to post a few pictures, mostly for myself. The kids helped…so it looks different than normal but they seem to love it.

Long overdue

I have not been good with blogging recently… my excuse is that my computer is incredibly slow and my kids are incredibly fast so in the amount of time that it takes me to write something they have managed to totally destroy something else. Last night I went to the garage to throw away a poopy diaper and when I got back in the kitchen they were sitting on the kitchen table pouring salt and pepper everywhere yelling sprinkles.

The kids are getting into a lot of things but they are also at a really fun stage. They are talking all the time and it is funny to finally get to hear what they are thinking about. Leah recently told me “owen leahs boyfriend” on the way to school. This cracked me up because I have never heard her talk about owen, a boy in her mothers day out and we don’t talk about boyfriends so I’m not sure where she heard this. She has also started saying I want grandma everytime she gets in trouble and she has learned to make a sad face and say “Please Daddy” or “please Grandpa”. It is ecspecially effective on Grandpa. Jack is obsessed with the movie cars right now and all things related to it. I am always telling him that cars drive on the floor because he tries to put them on the walls all the time. The other day when he was watching the cars movie he saw lightning mcqueen drive on the side of the race track during hte race and he now constantly tells me how “mcqueen drive on the wall…its a no no. ”

I don’t have time to write anymore now but here are a few pictures. I am trying to get better about taking pictures again but the kids do not really want to participate. I had to bribe them today with candy to get them to sit together..but they are wearing matching outfits so I thought it was worth it.
